The knowledge rating guide is a chart that can quickly display students' background knowledge and introduce new concepts. (This strategy is especially useful for vocabulary study.)

The knowledge rating guide provides a pre-assessment for Teacher planning as well as a checklist for students to monitor their learning.

Create a list of key concepts that will be addressed.

Design a knowledge rating system that best fits the content.

Create a chart for students to mark responses before reading and learning activities.

Return to the guide during the course of the lesson to check for understanding.
